Pearson P. Helliwell, Jr., 81, passed away peacefully at Mercy Medical Center on May 20, 2026. Pearson leaves many friends and family members who will remember him as a kind and considerate man who never passed judgement, loved to laugh, and was always willing to help anyone in need. Born in Holyoke on September 22, 1944, he was the son of Pearson P. Sr. and Lillian (Willette) Helliwell. Pearson lived the majority of his life in Holyoke other than a few years in Chicopee. He graduated from Holyoke High School in 1963 and then served in the U.S. Coast Guard. When his service was complete, Pearson worked until retirement at Danaher Corp (formerly Moore Drop Forge) in Springfield. Pearson is survived by his cousins: Pamela Phelps (William) of Mechanicville, NY; William Helliwell (Carole) of Minneapolis, MN; Jane Demers (Glenn) of Belchertown, MA; and Thomas Barker (Relina) of Belchertown, MA. Pearson also leaves behind many close friends including David Maloney and Kenneth Bluemer who stood by him until the end. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his aunt, Geraldine Lally. The family would like to thank the ICU staff at Mercy Medical Center for their kind and compassionate care of Pearson. A funeral service will be held for Pearson at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, on Wednesday, June 3, at 11:00 am followed by burial in Saint Jerome Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
