Penelope "Penny" (Pappas) Doyle Obituary

Penelope "Penny" Doyle passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 18, 2024. Penny was born on October 14, 1935, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, to her late, beloved immigrant parents, Arthur and Julia Pappas. She was the devoted wife of the late Philip J. Doyle. Penny and Phil spent their sixty-seven-year marriage raising their four children, enjoying time with their grandchildren, and dancing at every opportunity. As an avid veteran’s advocate, she was a supportive caregiver to her husband and a dedicated homemaker. Penny attended Holyoke High School and was a licensed pharmacy technician at Holyoke Medical Center for over 25 years where she enjoyed marching in the St Patrick Day Parade and participating in the “Follies” fundraiser with her co-workers. Her fun-loving energy and enthusiasm could be seen on trips to the casinos, while dancing the night away or just enjoying music. Guided by her faith and pride in her Greek heritage, Penny was a lifelong parishioner at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, served on the church council and was a member in the Ladies Philoptochos Society. Penny shared her husband’s passion for his Italian heritage by serving as the secretary of the Italian Progressive Society for many years. Wherever she went, Penny shared her gift of friendship and connection with everyone she met. The youngest sister of a large and loving family, Penny is predeceased by seven of her siblings and survived by her sister Mary Ricco. Penny will be deeply missed by her son Philip Doyle (Joni), daughter Karen Geraghty-Jesionowski (Peter), daughter, Carla Doyle-Florence (Thomas), son James Doyle (Lori), grandchildren Julie-Anne Stebbins (Grant), Julia McGillicuddy, Christopher Geraghty (Justine), Gavin McGillicuddy, Nicholas Doyle, Isabella Doyle, Josh Florence (Lauren) and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family members. The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday September 26 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 410 Main Street, Holyoke followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will take place Thursday in the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Donations go to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Ladies Philoptochos “Friends of the Poor” Society JDRF
