Peter Anthony Magri, age 67, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at his home in Hadley, following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born and raised in Holyoke, son of the late Donald and Ruth (Christian) Magri, and attended Holyoke schools. After growing up working in his family’s grocery store, Magri’s Market in Holyoke, Peter opened Magri’s Fruit, a retail and wholesale produce company in Chicopee. Peter would get up every day at 4 a.m. and drive to Hartford to hand-select the best produce for his store and the many local restaurants he supplied. Magri’s Fruit evolved into Magri’s Market and Deli on Memorial Drive, which his daughter Lauren continues to run successfully today. Peter was an avid golfer. On the last day of his life, he played 16 holes at Wyckoff Country Club, where he was a longtime member. Peter was also a bowler and a fisherman who loved the beach and the ocean. In recent years, Peter’s best times were spent with his granddaughter Gwenyth searching for frogs and turtles, hitting golf balls, and riding around in the golf cart. Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years Margaret (O’Brien) Magri of Hadley, his devoted daughter Lauren Magri, his granddaughter Gwenyth Louisa, who was the love and joy of his life, and his sister Anne Magri of Durham, NC. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews and a large group of longtime true and loyal friends. Peter was predeceased by his sister Lisa Kemp, his brother John “Jack” Magri, and his sister-in-law Louisa. Relatives and friends are invited to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial for Peter on Thursday, December 5, at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital, 516 Carew St, Springfield, MA 01104.
