Philip J. Sheridan, age 94, of South Hadley, died at his home on Thursday, February 27, 2025. He was born on November 27, 1930 in Holyoke, son of the late Philip and Rose (Dowd) Sheridan. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ann Kervian and Claire Grimaldi, his aunts, Emma Ducharme and Evelina Labreque, and his grandson Colin James Cavanaugh. Mr. Sheridan was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force at the conclusion of the Korean War. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth (Cauley) and their children Mary Kate (John) Cavanaugh, Michael (Robin), Daniel (Kim) and James(Edyie) Sheridan and grandchildren Victoria (Magda), Neal (Eleni) Cavanaugh, Kel, Kate (Pat), Sean (Emily), Brian, Connor, Logan, and Nolan Sheridan, his great grandchildren, Ellie and Rowan Cavanaugh, as well as his step-grandchildren and great grandchildren Wendy (Dan), Violet and Luke Pryce, Paula (Jason), Jacob and Evan Gilmartin.
He served as a Labor Union President, Director of Personnel, and Labor Relations Practitioner. Additionally, he was a Labor Arbitrator on the National Panels of the American Arbitration Association and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. He was a nationally recognized seminar leader as the Director of the Labor Relations Workshop, Inc. He was the founder and President of Sheridan and Associates, Inc., a labor relations consulting firm from which he retired in 1995 after 25 years of service. Thereafter, he was employed by the Law Firm of Sheridan & Sheridan, LLP. He was also the senior partner in Shamrock Realty Partnership. He held membership in the American Arbitration Association, the Hampden County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association, Florida Sheriff’s Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Hundred Club of Connecticut and the Founders Club of Ave Maria University in Ave Maria Florida, Marco Island Civic Association and the Massachusetts Citizens for Life. He was also President of the Board of Directors of Nuestro Ahora, Inc., a member of the Catholic League of New York City and a tutor for Students at Risk in Marco Island, FL. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in South Hadley and the San Marco Parish in Marco Island, Florida.
Calling Hours will be held Monday, March 3rd from 9-10:30 a.m. at Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 30 Main Street, South Hadley. Burial will be private.
