Rachel Marie Bowen, 37, lifelong resident of Granby, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on November 13, 2024 due to complications related to a genetic disorder called Marfan's Syndrome. Rachel was born in Holyoke, daughter of James “Jamie” and Joan (Brown) Bowen. Besides her parents, Rachel is survived by her brother Jamie Bowen, her grandmother Dorothy Doyle Brown and was blessed with many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her grandfather Thomas F. Brown. Rachel attended Granby Public Schools where she formed very special childhood friendships. She continued her education at Mount Holyoke College and graduated with a degree in film and history. Rachel pursued a career as a writer and dreamed of completing her trilogy based on a fictional world that she created with strong characters and of course magic. She was able to finish and publish the first in the series called the Silver Hunt. Besides writing she enjoyed going to the movies, reading, listening to music and going to concerts but her favorite pastime was being with family. Wonderful family vacations were enjoyed at Cape Cod, Maine, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Hawaii but her most cherished memories were being home with family including of course her fluffy dog Ben. Rachel lived her life courageously and we all will miss her compassion, her beautiful smile, her humor and every spiritual trait she embodied. Mostly she will be missed for her ability to always let her heart light the way. Donations in her memory can be made to the Boston Children’s Hospital, the National Marfans Foundation or the Dakin Animal Shelter. The family will be celebrating Rachel’s life privately.
