Rafael Antonio Diaz Pino, age 74, of Holyoke, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Holyoke Medical Center. He was born in Laguna Salada, Dominican Republic, and lived in Puerto for many years before moving to Holyoke. Rafael was a chef at several area restaurants including Salsa Rengue Restaurant in Holyoke. He was a faithful communicant of Our Lady Guadalupe Parish where he was an active member of Cursillo programs. He enjoyed participating in many church activities and spending time praying in his quiet room. Rafael was extremely generous, and was well known in his community for opening his home at any time to anyone who was in need of shelter and other resources. He is survived by four children: Maria Ivelisse Diaz Rodrigue, Rafael, Osiri Diaz Rodriguez, Yahaira del Pilar Diaz Rodriguez, and Roberto Gonzalez Gonzalez; a sister, Yselsa Maria Acosta; and many other siblings on his father’s side of the family. Rafael will also be missed by his special friends, Mary Vazquez, Lorenzo Vazquez, Ruben Urbina, and Aida Gonzalez. He was predeceased by his former wife, Rosa Hilda Rodriguez; his parents, Felix Diaz Garcia and Clara Maria Pino; and two sisters, Mamerta Antonia Acosta and Feyita Acosta. The funeral will be held on Thursday, October 1st at 9 am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 54 North Summer Street. Burial will follow in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 30th from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions will be accepted by the funeral home as payment towards Rafael’s funeral expenses.
