Raymond R. Brunelle Obituary
Raymond R. Brunelle, age 89, of South Hadley, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, CT. He was born in Granby, Canada on July 29, 1935, a son of the late Ovide and Florence (Landreville) Brunelle. Growing up in Canada, and as a young man, Raymond would cross over into the US to work in Vermont, picking apples in order to make money to take home to help support the family. Later, the family moved to Holyoke, where they set up permanent residence. Both of Raymond's parents were born in the United States, making him a dual citizen of both countries. Raymond worked hard all his life working double shifts for many years. He worked in every papermill in Holyoke, retiring at age 62 from Parsons Paper on Sargeant Street in Holyoke. It was while working at Chemical Fine Paper on Cabot Street, that he met his wife, Norma (Moroni) Brunelle. While working there with his future father-in-law, a big snow storm covered his vehicle in January of 1959, and he needed a ride home to South Hadley, where his family had moved, that was his first meeting with Norma. They went out two weeks later, got engaged the end of June, and were married the following month of July. Together they were married 65 plus years. Besides his parents, Raymond was predeceased by a brother, Normand Brunelle. He leaves four wonderful children: Donna Wrona (Leonard) of Auburn, Kansas, Joanne Brunelle of South Hadley, Lynn Boivin of Springfield, and Mark Brunelle of South Hadley; three grandchildren, David N. Boivin, Jr., Lee Wrona and John Wrona (Kyra); one great grandchild, Skyler Nicole Boivin; a brother, Gerard Brunelle; a sister, Priscilla (Brunelle) Larose, and many nieces and nephews. After retirement, Ray and Norma took many trips to Maine, where he and his wife enjoyed walking the beach, and traveling to every lighthouse along the coast. They also took yearly vacations with their son every October for two weeks. This was relaxing to him and loved his time visiting there. His children had the best dad they could ask for, working double shifts for many years so they would not be in need of anything and always looking out for their best interests. Raymonds family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and patient care techs, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, in Torrington, CT for the outstanding care and compassion they showed Raymond over the last three weeks. All services are private. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
