Regina M. "Jean" (Hill) Hoey Obituary

Regina (Jean) Mary Hoey (nee Hill), 96, passed away Friday morning surrounded by family. Her husband of 55 years, Francis (Frank) J. Hoey Jr. predeceased her in 2005. Jean spent her married life dedicated to her 10 children; Paul and wife Carol of Paxton MA., Maureen and husband Walter Marcoux of Marco Island FL., Mark and wife Linda, Judy, Ann and husband Joe O’Neill, Jim and wife Laurie, and Francis, all of Holyoke; Claudia Gaudet of So. Hadley and Eileen and husband Paul Duffy of Belfast, Northern Ireland. A son Thomas predeceased her. Jean’s family reaches out over several generations, in addition to the above Jean leave’s a daughter-in- law, Lasca Hoey of Holyoke; 20 grandchildren: Sarah Hoey Harrahy, Leah Francis, Adam Hoey, Chris and Michael Keenan, Amber Brook, Sean Hoey, Lauren and Caitlin O’Neill, Jessica and Kristi Gaudet, Joseph, Chad, and Keith Topor, Kaleigh Burke, Jillian and Matthew Hoey, Conor, Frank, and Lindsay Hoey; and 20 great grandchildren. Jean was the only child of Philip and Catherine (Quinn) Hill, growing up in Worcester MA.

She attended high school at Sacred Heart Academy, graduating as valedictorian, then attended Framingham State College graduating with a degree in Home Economics. She taught in both the Charlton and Holyoke school systems. Jean and Frank moved the family to Holyoke in the early 60’s, they also purchased property in Ireland and managed to fund family trips over the years so that all 10 kids with their spouses were able to visit and those trips were extensive. They also happily took all their grandchildren. Jean enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, and reading on a daily basis. She was a proud member of her Dunkin’ Dames posse, socializing after senior center visits and regular pizza nights.

The funeral for Jean will be held Thursday October 3rd at 9:00am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of the Cross Parish Church. Burial will take place in Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday Oct 2nd from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of Jean to JERICHO, PO Box 1039, Holyoke, MA 01041
