HOLYOKE:  Richard A. Desgres, age 97, passed away on April 23, 2026. He was born in Holyoke on January 13, 1929, a son of the late Ulderic and Marie Louise (Lecuyer) Desgres.

Richard went to Precious Blood School and attended Dean Technical High School. He was a United States Army Veteran and served in Germany during the Korean War. He was a retired firefighter for the Holyoke Fire Department.

Richard was a Holyoke Little League baseball coach and a longtime communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. An avid sports fan, Richard loved the Red Sox, the Marlins and the Patriots. He told many stories about driving to Brooklyn to see the Dodgers in his younger years. Richard loved playing golf and enjoyed playing his weekly card game at the Chicopee Elks.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Rosemary (Kane), his two sons; Richard and Robert, his daughter-in-law Cinnamon, his three grandchildren Jacob, Rocco and Kiera. Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by his brother George. 

A Funeral Home Service will be held on Thursday, April 30th at 11:00am at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street followed by burial in Saint Jerome Cemetery.  A calling hour will be held prior to the service from 10:00am to 11:00am. In lieu of flowers  donations may be made to the VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System in Leeds
