Richard Patrick Geraghty, age 86, of East Longmeadow, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late John J. and Josephine (Walsh) Geraghty and was a 1953 graduate of the former Saint Jerome High School. Richard was a United States Navy Veteran, serving from 1955 to 1958, then worked as a letter carrier at the Holyoke Post Office, retiring after thirty-five years. He then relocated to Bowling Green, KY where he worked as a teacher’s aide in that city’s public schools for twenty-five years, before returning to Western Mass four years ago. Richard enjoyed spending time at the East Longmeadow Council on Aging playing cribbage, pitch and bingo. He is survived by a daughter, Theresa M. Pronovost and her longtime companion Dean Hills of Somers CT; two sons: Michael J. Geraghty and wife Susan of Washington DC and Glynn P. Geraghty of Palm Coast FL; three brothers: John of Centerville MA, William of South Hadley and Edward of Holyoke; six grandchildren: Jason, Jeffrey, Justine, Heather, Ryan and Patrick; seven great grandchildren: Gavin, Savannah, James, Garrett, Violet, Rocco and Matthew, as well as many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Sammy. He was predeceased by a son, David Geraghty in 1987, three brothers: Jack, James and Frank Geraghty, and two sisters: Margaret Salvador and Ruth Kennedy. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial for Richard on Saturday, August 28th at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Patrick Chapel of Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
