Rita Lorraine (Lariviere) Brosseau, age 93, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong Holyoke resident, Rita was a daughter of the late Henry and Lauria (Tetreault) Lariviere and graduated from the former Precious Blood High School and Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Holyoke. A long time registered nurse, she worked at Providence Hospital, and then enjoyed a long career as a school nurse in the Holyoke Public School System. She had a passion for quilting and everyone knew where to find her; in her sewing room, foot to the pedal looking out over the neighborhood. Rita enjoyed painting, especially at the Holyoke Creative Art Center as well as traveling, reading, puzzling, and sewing dolls for her grandchildren. She was a long time communicant at Holy Cross Church of Our Lady of the Cross Parish. Rita was the widow of Robert W. Brosseau who preceded her on November 15, 2019; they were married for 65 years. She is survived by her 5 children: Laura Sanchick and her husband Ira of South Salem, NY, Susan O’Brien and her husband David of Holyoke, Daniel Brosseau and his wife Linda of Norton, James Brosseau and his wife Cindy of Ludlow, and John Brosseau of TN; 6 grandchildren, Danielle Sanchick, Michael Sanchick, Zachary Brosseau, Brianna Brosseau, Jamie Brosseau and Megan Brosseau and 4 great grandchildren, Jack Hobson (a heart angel), Oliver Brosseau, Conrad Swindell and Jude Hobson. She is also survived by her 2 sisters, Theresa Quinzi and Lorraine Gaulin and her husband Claude of Florida. Rita was predeceased by two brothers: Henry Lariviere Jr., and Fernand Lariviere. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of The Cross Church, Holy Cross Avenue. Burial will follow in Saint Jerome Cemetery.
