HOLYOKE

Rita Madeline (Slater) Kaplan passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Mount Saint Vincent Care Center in Holyoke. She was born in Holyoke on November 26, 1921 a daughter of the late Martin W. and Catherine (Sayers) Slater, and attended Our Lady of the Holy Rosary School. Rita was a faithful communicant of the former Mater Dolorosa Parish in Holyoke. She was the widow of Peter S. Kaplan who passed away in 1984, and dedicated her life to raising her children and surrounding her family with love. Rita is survived by her daughter, Anne Grady and her husband Michael of Wilbraham, and her daughter-in-law Donna Kaplan of Lynnwood, WA; seven grandchildren (Robert and Michael Cyr, Keith and Shawn Kaplan, Kelly Keeler and Drew and Joseph Grady); seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Rita was predeceased by four sons: Friar Bartholomew Kaplan, Peter P. Kaplan, Joseph Kaplan and James Kaplan. She will be best remembered for her gentle nature, her beautiful smile, and her love for her family. All services for Rita are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association.
