Robert William Brosseau, age 89, of Holyoke, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. He was born in Springfield, son of the late Romaine and Grace (Reardon) Brosseau and was a graduate of Holyoke High School. Robert was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War serving from 1948 to 1952. He worked as a lineman for New England Telephone Company, retiring in 1983. He was a longtime member of the Holyoke Lodge of Elks #902 and the American Legion. Robert is survived by his wife, Rita L. (Lariviere) Brosseau; 5 children: Laura Sanchick and her husband Ira of South Salem, NY, Susan O’Brien and her husband David of Holyoke, Daniel Brosseau and his wife Linda of Norton, James Brosseau and his wife Cindy of Ludlow, and John Brosseau of TN; and 6 grandchildren, Danielle Sanchick, Michael Sanchick, Zachary Brosseau, Brianna Brosseau, Jamie Brosseau and Megan Brosseau. He is also survived by his brother, George Collison and his wife Judith of Amherst. Robert was an avid sports fan. In his youth he played softball and hockey. Mr. Brosseau was a big history buff and enjoyed reading books on nautical and military history. His sense of humor and love of making people laugh, his strong will and fierce independence will be missed. The funeral will be held on Thursday, November 21st at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of The Cross Church, Holy Cross Avenue. Burial will follow in Saint Jerome Cemetery.
