Robert V. Klopfer, 74, of Holyoke, passed away at home on January 18, 2022 surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. Son of the late Robert E. and Maryjule A. (Mahannah) Klopfer, he leaves his beloved wife, Patricia L. (Coppez), after 50 years of marriage. He is survived by his children, Robert G. and his wife, Marie R. Klopfer; and his daughter, Jennifer L. and her husband, Collin J. Provost. He will miss his cherished granddaughters, Abigail L. and Mackensie R. Provost, and Sofia L. Klopfer. He also leaves Ruth Klopfer of Rocky Hill, Conn., wife of his late brother, Kenneth H. Klopfer. His many nieces, nephews and dear friends will miss him tremendously.
Bob is a graduate of Holyoke High School class of 1965, and he earned his associate degree in Electronics at Springfield Technical Community College in 1967. He was a member of the United States Army National Guard. Bob received his electrical license through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 7 apprenticeship program. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as Electrician and Estimator at M.L. Schmitt, Inc., in Springfield for 40 years. He was also a lifelong communicant of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Holyoke.
All who knew Bob understood he was the happiest when he was working, building and fixing. He built his family’s vacation home in Dennisport, Mass., Cape Cod, where he spent countless days fishing, boating and clamming, some of his favorite oceanside hobbies. Enjoying fresh Cape Cod oysters, lobsters and clams brought him great joy. Bob was an avid Boston sports fan and loved simple Sunday afternoons watching New England Patriot football games with family. Bob was determined, loyal, and smart, and especially enjoyed laughing and joking as he was very quick witted.
His family would like to thank all caregivers, especially Dr. Wilson C. Mertens and Dr. Michael J. Yunes, at the D’Amour Center for Cancer Care, for helping Bob during his cancer journey.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours for Bob on Saturday, January 22 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a 10 a.m. service. Burial will follow at Forestdale West Cemetery, Rock Valley Road, Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to D'Amour Center for Cancer Care, 3350 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107.
