Robert P. “Bobby” Berneche, age 59, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 22, 2021. He was born in Holyoke and was a graduate of Holyoke High School. Bobby was a United States Navy Veteran, serving in the Navy Seabees Division. He was a lifelong carpenter in this area and in Pittsburgh, where he had lived for the past 23 years. Bobby loved building and woodworking. He was a huge fan of ice hockey, playing throughout his high school years, and also enjoyed fishing and golf. Playing trivia was another passion; Bobby was bright, witty, and articulate. He was predeceased by his wife, Maria, in 2020 and his father, Robert, in 2015, as well as his aunts, Sandy Hamel and Jacqueline Letourneau. Bobby leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Phyllis (Hamel) Berneche of Holyoke; his sister, Dr. Reya Lee formerly known as Laura Berneche and her husband Dr. Sam Ables of TN; his brother, Bill Berneche of Chicopee; and his sister-in-law, Donna Berneche. Two special nieces, Nica Lee Ables of TN and Alicen Berneche of Chicopee, will also miss him, as will two aunts, Betty Bahlin and her husband Paul, and Carole Davis and her husband Phill, and an uncle, Al Letourneau. He also leaves his step-son, Robert Magilson and his wife Brooke, and his “grandchildren,” Tenley and Westin. Many cousins and friends will also remember him. A calling hour will be held on Saturday, March 27th from 2 to 3 pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Committal with US Navy military honors will be held on Monday, March 29th at 2 pm in the chapel of the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Masks and social distancing are required for all services, and please note that both facilities have reduced capacity.
