Robert E. “Bob” Swan, age 78, died Sunday morning March 21, 2021 at his home in Port Charlotte, Florida attended to by his family and partner Elaine Ryan. He was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on January 16, 1943, a son of the late Donald and Helen (Diffley) Swan. Bob proudly served in the United State Air Force from 1963 to 1968 based at Westover AFB and stationed in Germany. He was a retired Deputy Chief on the Holyoke Fire Department from 1971 to 2003, and a member of the Department’s Arson Squad. He was a member of and served on the Board of Directors of the Holyoke Firefighters Association Local 1693, and was a director on the Holyoke Credit Union’s Board of Directors since 2000. He enjoyed splitting retirement between his homes in South Hadley, Massachusetts and Port Charlotte, Florida. Bob loved travelling, golfing, gardening, boating, and spending time with loved ones, friends, and family. He was an avid blood and platelet donor. Bob is survived by his son Keith Swan and his wife Amy Hosford-Swan of Melrose, Massachusetts and their three boys Ian, Aidan, and Jacob; his daughter Susan and her husband Marc Normandin and their son Brian; and his brother William Swan of New Bedford. Besides his parents, Bob is preceded in his crossing by his oldest brother James Swan and younger sister Patricia Jupin.Funeral will begin on Friday, May 21st at 9:00 a.m.from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by Committal and United States Air Force Military Honors at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam.
