Robert Wesley “Bob” Moriarty, beloved son, husband, father, nephew, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at Baystate Medical Center on Tuesday, May 2, 2022 after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia. The only child of the late Eugene and Mabel (Johnson) Moriarty, he was born and raised in Holyoke and was a product of the Holyoke Public Schools. He graduated from Holyoke Community College and Western New England College. Sadly, Bob’s father died when he was just 5 ½ years old, and he was raised by his mother Mabel, and her two sisters Irene and Claire in their beloved apartments on Brookline and Florence Avenues. He was a hands-on dad and Pop-pop with respect to diaper changing, babysitting, and good advice dispensing. There was nothing he enjoyed more than attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, concerts, and dance recitals. He could also make a mean banana bread and was the family grill-master! He had a wonderful sense of humor, a love for his Irish heritage, and a strong devotion to his Catholic faith. He was also a dedicated fan to all of the New England sports teams. Bob enjoyed taking daytrips to Rockport and Boston, golfing, skiing, ice skating, reading, and spending time at the CT shore. He was also a very gifted writer and actually started writing a book based loosely on an Irish-Catholic family set in Holyoke. He was employed in Holyoke and Chicopee for a variety of companies, but got his start at Lestoil as a credit manager and was head of production planning at Graham Medical Products. Bob leaves his loving wife of almost 60 years, Janet (LaCroix) Moriarty; two daughters, Kerry Dowd (Michael) and Kelli Moriarty-Finn (David); a son, Robert (Melissa), and grandchildren: Patrick and Connor Dowd, Brigid, Sarah, Matthew and Daniel Moriarty, all to cherish his memory. His family is thankful for the commitment of doctors, nurses, and caregivers, especially those who cared for him in his final days. A special thanks to friends, extended family, and special neighbors who were a source of great comfort in a variety of ways during Bob’s illness. Your kindness will never be forgotten. The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 7th at 7:45 am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery, Holyoke. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 6th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington DC 20090-6011.
