Rodger E. Nichols Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rodger E. Nichols (89) of Chicopee, MA on April 28, 2026. He was born in New Washington, IN to the late Guy and Ethel Nichols. Rodger was predeceased by his wife of 68 years Gwendoline Nichols, they are now together again. He was predeceased by his grandsons: Patrick Alan Rud, Johnnie Nichols and his great granddaughter Faith Abigail Roux. Also his sisters: Alberta Tucker, Joyce King, Irma Ruth Jones and his brother Harold Nichols predeceased him.
Rodger is survived by his children: Beverley Kopec, Gary and Francine Nichols, Susan and Michael Redfern, Steven and Eva Nichols, Joseph and Melanie Nichols. His many grandchildren: Christopher and Trish Nichols, Nicholas Rud, Kevin and Jen Nichols, Katie and Luc Roux, Sr., Alex Nichols, Bryan Nichols, Matthew and Jill Nichols and Sarah Nichols.
Rodger was also blessed with many great grandchildren: Christopher and Valerie, Shannon, Colin, Peyton, Jaxson, Ryan, Charlotte, Tucker, Benjamin, Brent, Adam, Audrina, Luc jr., Zachary, Grace and Abel.
Rodger is also survived by his brother David and Felicia Nichols and his sister Juanita Wallace.
Rodger was always a hard worker and enlisted in the Army in 1953 at the age of 16, after 8 months because of his age he was honorably discharged. He then a few months later enlisted in the Air Force and retired in 1974 after 20 years. He was a Vietnam Veteran and received many medals, awards and ribbons during his service. In the Army, he was a light wheel vehicle mechanic and in the Air Force a jet engine mechanic. Some of his other employment over the years was manager of the Westover NCO Club, Westfield State Wire and Cable, Store Loss Prevention for Zayre's and Two Guys and Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks, CT where he retired in 1999.
In Rodgers spare time he liked to help other veterans and was a member and past-vice commander of DAV Chapter 11 Chicopee, MA. He also was an avid gardener, fresh water fisherman, backyard mechanic and enjoyed metal detecting.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday May 5 at 9:30am in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke followed by committal with military honors at 11:00am in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Visitation will be Monday May 4 from 4:00 to 7:00pm in the funeral home.
