Rose Heleane Glidden Obituary

We celebrate the Life of Rose “Heleane” (Geissler) Glidden, who passed away peacefully at her home in Holyoke at the age of 92, just 7 days before her next birthday on Christmas Day. She was surrounded by her loving family, dedicated care takers and of course her dog and buddy “Guinness”. Heleane was a true Holyoke native and was born and raised her family in the city she loved. She graduated from Saint Jerome’s High School and throughout her life, she brought kindness and a gentle touch to every role she held whether helping her customers and neighbors as a Bank Teller or welcoming visitors as the receptionist and bookkeeper at the Holyoke Geriatric Authority or as the Controller for the Holyoke Retirement Board, where she ultimately retired from. Heleane’s greatest joy was her Family. Beside sides her parents, Henry and Mae (Lally) Geissler, she was predeceased by the love of her life Charles “Fred” Glidden. Heleane and Fred endured the heart-breaking loss of their truly special children, son Charles “Chuck” Glidden (Rye, NY) and daughter Laura (Glidden) Kane (Portland, ME), both to cancer. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Doris Sheehan and Shirley Walkowicz.  Heleane is survived by her son David and his wife Michelle (Pin) of Glastonbury, CT and her Angel of a daughter Lisa (Glidden) Wykowski and her husband Edward of South Hadley, MA. She is survived by seven Grandchildren, Katherine (Glidden) Jeness and her Husband Mitch of Douglas, MA. Brian Kane and Daniel Kane of Portland, ME. Rosemarie (Glidden) Coveney and Husband Jack of Winthrop, MA, and Elizabeth Glidden of Atlanta, GA., Charles Wykowski of Albany NY and Edward Wykowski of South Hadley, MA, a daughter-in-law, Lisa Duval and her husband Michael of Holyoke, a son-in-law, Michael Kane of Portland, ME, as well as many very special nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her great granddaughter Maeve Jeness with two more Great Grandchildren on their way! She also leaves behind so many families and friends especially Maureen Maloney (Holyoke) and Ellen Onefrey (Westfield) Heleane’s greatest joy was her family and being a devoted wife to Fred and being the true Matriarch of the Glidden Family. The Family gives special thanks to the Army of Angel Healthcare workers who took such special care of her allowing her to stay in her home until her passing, all the Nurses and CNA’s from Nova Healthcare, and special thanks to “her girls” Ashley Rodriques, Joanny Rosario and Lizzy Maldonado. Lastly in the “Can never thank enough category her “part timer” but full time Angel and friend Kathy Homan, RN who the Glidden’s will never be able to thank enough for being her Quarterback of care.
