Ruth C. (Moriarty) Murphy

Ruth C. (Moriarty) Murphy, age 94, of Holyoke, passed away at Day Brook Village on Thursday, May 4, 2023. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late John and Nora (Gloster) Moriarty, attended Saint Jerome Schools, and was a graduate of the former Saint Jerome High School. Ruth attended the Providence Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1950, and then worked as an RN at Providence Hospital for many years. She was a lifelong communicant of Saint Jerome Church, and enjoyed spending time at the Holyoke YMCA where she was a member of “The Water Lillies.” She was the widow of Stephen F. Murphy who passed away on December 14, 2004. Ruth is survived by six children: Margaret “Peggy” Coppez and her husband Pudge (George), Deborah Pronovost and her husband Mark, Kathleen Viens and her husband Michael, Brian Murphy and his wife Kelly, Patrick Murphy, and Nora Dansereau and her husband Michael; daughter-in-law Pamela Murphy; brother-in-law Eugene Murphy; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Brother Stephen Murphy OFM Conv. in 2022; brother, John “Buddy” Moriarty, and sisters Mary “Mimi” O’Connor and Teresa (Terry) Greaney Paquette. Ruth also cherished her special relationships with Mary Lou O’Connor and Maggie Monahan DeForge. The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 13th at 9:00 am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street. Burial will follow in Saint Jerome Cemetery, 1666 Northampton Street. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 12th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
