Sharyn H. (Hurley) McArdle

South Hadley:  Sharyn (Hurley) McArdle, 75, of South Hadley, passed away at her home surrounded by family and close friends after a courageous battle against cancer on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Howard and Helen (Doyle) Hurley, and graduated from Blessed Sacrament Grammar School and the former Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1962. Sharyn then attended Holyoke Community College followed by a career at New England Telephone Company in Springfield, where she worked for 35 years until her retirement in 1997. Sharyn took great pleasure in gardening and keepng her home in beautiful order. She loved to travel; she enjoyed Maine, Ireland, Hampton Beach and Florida. She was a woman of great class and style that was never outdone. Sharyn’s greatest pride and joy was her role as Gramma. She loved spending time supporting her granddaughters and attending their games, Irish dance performances and special occasions. She was predeased by her husband of 35 years, Philip F. McArdle, in May of 2004. Sharyn is survived by her beloved son, Matthew F. McArdle and his wife Emily (Murphy) of Holyoke; three grandchildren: Madelyn, Katherine, and Brigid; one sister, Linda Villani and her husband Donald of West Yarmouth; a niece, Andrea Igoe, her husband Brian and their children Alexandra, her Goddaughter, and Patrick; a nephew, Michael Villani and his children Maggie, Grace and Olivia; and many dear friends including two lifelong friends, Maureen Desormier and Kathy Grady. The McArdle Family wishes to thank Dr. Armen Asik and the staff at D’Amour Center for Cancer Care, and the nurses and staff of Holyoke VNA & Hospice for the compassionate care that they provided to Sharyn. Relatives and friends are invited to attended a Mass of Christian Burial for Sharyn on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 10:00 am in Our Lady of The Cross Parish Church, Holy Cross Avenue, Holyoke. Burial will follow at St. Jerome Cemetery, also in Holyoke. Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Masks and social distancing required. Friends will be asked to leave the building immediately after paying respects to the family.
