Sheila A. (Lawrence) Dedeurwaerder

Sheila A. Lawrence Dedeurwaerder is now in God's care following a 2-year courageous fight against breast cancer. She passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Hartford Hospital. Sheila was born on December 15, 1955 in Holyoke, MA to the late Thomas and Margaret (Fox) Lawrence. She attended Blessed Sacrament Grammar School and graduated from Holyoke Catholic High School, Class of 1974.  Sheila worked for decades at JP's, The Hazard Grille, and O'Meara's. Her cheerful and upbeat personality was always on display. Sheila loved life, her family, and her many friends. She is survived by her son, Patrick Dedeurwaerder of Holyoke; daughters: Erin Rivera of Westfield, Kara Smith of Agawam and Jessica Dedeurwaerder of Holyoke (with whom she lived); and her brothers, Tommy Lawrence of Naples, FL and Jimmy Lawrence and his wife Kathy and their sons James and Sean of West Springfield. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Chelsie, Michaela, Jacob and Charlotte; her great-grandchildren Ava, Aiden and Ivy, and her lifelong best friend, Linda Clare Sullivan. Sheila's family is grateful to the Holyoke Medical Center Oncology Department, Dr. Zubeena Mateen and all of her staff for their kindness and compassion. A funeral service will be held for Sheila on Wednesday, September 6th at 12 noon at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Calling hours will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. The burial will be held privately at the family’s convenience.
