Sheila A. (Hortie) Murphy

WESTFIELD

Sheila A. (Hortie) Murphy, age 81, of Westfield, passed away peacefully at home Saturday December 8, 2018 with her loving family by her side. Sheila was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Griffin) Hortie, and attended Holyoke schools. She was a military wife and homemaker, staying home to raise her family while her husband, Joseph E. Murphy, served in the United States Air Force. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 2014. Sheila is survived by three daughters: Maureen Wood of Apopka, Florida, Linda Murphy of Springfield, and Nancy Hall of Westfield; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter JoAnn Cabana in 2004, and two sisters: Claire LaFleur and Connie Goshea. A funeral home service will be held on Wednesday December 12 at 6:45pm in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Calling hours will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Burial with committal prayers will take place on Thursday December 13 at 2:00pm in the chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
