Sherry (Bowmar) Geeleher Obituary

SOUTHAMPTON: Sherry (Bowmar) Geeleher was born on March 3rd 1946 in Needham, MA to James and Dora Bowmar. She passed away peacefully on October 9th 2025 at the age of 79 in Leeds, MA. Sherry was raised in Needham, MA and attended the Academy of the Assumption on a scholarship, an all girls school in Wellesley Hills, MA. An avid lover of basketball, Sherry played every position on her high school basketball team. She would later start Southampton’s first soccer program and be the Soccer Director. After graduating from high school, she attended Westfield State College where she graduated with a degree in mathematics and education. After graduation, the first school she taught at was Sharon High School. Upon completing her first year of teaching she married John Geeleher and moved to Holyoke, MA. She was hired by South Hadley High School where she taught for 38 years. She taught algebra, geometry, AP statistics and calculus. She missed playing basketball and coached the girls’ basketball team for two years. While she stopped coaching, she never stopped watching basketball, often grading homework and tests during Celtics games (and sometimes All My Children). After retiring she missed teaching and was hired to teach statistics at UMass Amherst to adult students in the evening. It was also during this time that she started working as a bookkeeper, payroll administrator, and HR for her son’s construction business. Sherry is survived by her devoted, loving husband John Geeleher of 58 years, her three children Sean, Ryan and Amy, her three in laws Dawn, Mary, and Pete, her three grandchildren Kiera, John, and Gavin as well as her sister Lori Marcotrigiano and her nephews Paul and Michael.
