Stanley Czerwiec, Jr. Obituary

Stanley J. Czerwiec, Jr., age 76, of South Hadley, MA passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his loving family on March 7, 2024. He was born in Holyoke on April 4, 1947. He graduated from the Mater Dolorosa School and Holyoke High School in 1965. Stanley worked as a Production and Scheduling Manager in the Administration and Data Processing Center at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst for over 35 years retiring in 2002. He enjoyed candlepin bowling and was an avid golfer.

Stanley was predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years Irene (Matuszek), his parents Stanley and Amelia (Porebny) Czerwiec and his brother Richard. He is survived by his caring and loving sons Keith & wife Amy Patt of Chicopee and Daniel & wife Kathy of Feeding Hills. He cherished the time he spent with his beloved granddaughters Lainey and Marin and his two step-granddaughters Audrey and Summer.   Stanley is also survived by two sisters-in-law Martha Jendrysik & husband Ronald of Chicopee and Sr. Elizabeth Matuszek, SSJ of Chicopee, as well as his niece Paula Lamarre & husband Leonard and family of Chicopee and nephew Ronald Jendrysik & wife Lyn and family of Millbury. He also leaves behind dear friend Maragret (Peggy) Ecker and family.

Stanley was a communicant of the former Mater Dolorosa Church in Holyoke where he served as an altar boy, lector and eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and served as president for 2 years during the building and dedication of the Pope John Paul II Parish Center. He worked the Winter Bazaar and Summer Festivals for more than 50 years. He also served for 2 years on the Parish Council and as chairman of the Mater Dolorosa School Board for 5 years. He moved to Our Lady of the Cross Parish when the Holy Cross and Mater Dolorosa parishes merged. There he coordinated the scheduling of lectors and eucharistic ministers for all masses.

He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 424 out of Chicopee for more than 30 years, serving as Secretary, Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster. He led several high adventure trips including Gettysburg Battlefield, canoe trips in the Adirondacks and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He earned Woodbadge and his Brotherhood in Order of the Arrow. He served 18 years on the Diocese of Springfield Religious Award Committee and received the St. George Cross.

Calling Hours will be held at Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home 2049 Northampton St, Holyoke, MA on Thursday March 14 from 4-7pm with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am on Friday, March 15 at Our Lady of the Cross Church. Burial will follow immediately at the Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in South Hadley, MA. Arrival at the Funeral Parlor will be at 9am.
