Stephanie Michelle Swindell, 49, of Holyoke, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, in Boston, surrounded by her three adored and loving children, the love of her life and her best friend. Born on November 20, 1975, in Holyoke, Stephanie was the daughter of Stephen Swindell and the late Theresa Swindell(Furtak). She remained deeply connected to her hometown, where she built her career, raised her family, and created traditions that will live on for generations. Stephanie dedicated 25 years of her life as a correctional officer with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office. Known for her tenacity, strength, and integrity. She was respected for her fairness, her willingness to speak the truth, and her compassion for those around her. Her success was not only in her long career of service but in the way she lived her life—with determination, courage and heart.
Family was the center of everything for Stephanie. She is survived by her children, Nick Swindell and his wife Megan, Abby Brunelle, and Ella Brunelle; her grandson Conrad Swindell; her father, Stephen Swindell; her brother, Jason Swindell along with his wife Christie and their two children Jake and Sadie; and Brian the love of her life, with whom she planned a future full of boating, stargazing, and joy. She was predeceased by her mother, Theresa Swindell. She was a devoted mother, always encouraging her children to never give up and to become the best version of themselves. She listened, supported, and fought for them fiercely. Her competitive spirit shined even in playful moments—whether pushing past her daughter in a parents vs. kids basketball game or cheering her family on with pride. She created unforgettable birthdays, pool parties, and holiday gatherings that made every season brighter. After her mother’s passing Stephanie carried on the family traditions of making Russian tea cakes at Christmas and preparing holiday dinners. She passed down the recipes and love of family connection that meant so much to her. Stephanie’s adventurous spirit carried her far beyond home. She loved traveling, especially through Europe and found her “happy place” in Chamonix, France. Boating with Brian beneath the open sky became one of her greatest joys. At home, she found peace in hiking trails, late-night walks with her beloved dog Enzo and her best friend Terri.
When you look at the stars or see a bird in flight, may you remember Stephanie—an extraordinary woman who lived with strength, love, and adventure, and who made every moment mean something.
Private services will be held at a later date for immediate family.
