Stephen Robert Loughrey

HOLYOKE

Stephen Robert Loughrey, age 65, of Holyoke, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center. On October 1, 1956 Steve was born in Holyoke to the late F. Joseph and Helen (Barrett) Loughrey. He was a graduate of Holyoke Catholic High School and UMass/Stockbridge in Amherst. Steve was a talented landscaper and did landscaping work in many places across the country like Westchester Country Club, Pebble Beach and Disney World. Ultimately, Steve was a hard-working, fun-loving guy with a generous heart who was always armed with a joke or story to tell with a twinkle in his eye. Nothing meant more to him than his family he so loved.

He was a parishioner of Saint Jerome Parish and a former member of the Saint Patrick’s Parade Committee of Holyoke. Steve is survived by seven siblings: Joe Loughrey (Deborah) of Indiana, Michael Loughrey (Yvonne) of New Mexico, Kathleen Lindberg (Jeff) of New Hampshire, Thomas Loughrey of Chicopee, Mary Ellen Rohan (Kevin) of South Hadley, James Loughrey of Stoneham, and Shaun Loughrey of Holyoke. He also leaves two uncles, Robert Loughrey of Holyoke and James Allegro of Florida, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins on both the Loughrey and Barrett sides of the family. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a sister-in-law, Andrea Loughrey. 

Our family wants to give a big shout out to the Baystate Medical Staff who treated our brother and us with such dignity, respect, and compassion through Steve’s last hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 11:00am in Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke. Visitation will be held in the church prior to Mass from 8:45am to 10:45am. Burial will be held privately. The family respectfully requests that masks be worn by all attending the visitation and Mass at Church for the health of all. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Stephen to Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Suite 304, Waltham, MA 02452. The Barry J.
