Stephen U. "Moon" Rainaud Obituary
Stephen “Moon” Rainaud passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025. Born in Holyoke, MA to Ulric and Marjorie (Smiledge) on December 31, 1950, Moon (or Dream, depending on what nickname he was going by at that stage of life) was raised in South Hadley with his five siblings, Jeffrey, David, Carolyn, Charlie and Laurie Anne. He was a graduate of South Hadley High School and served in the United States Air Force. Stephen was an avid golfer, playing regularly at Wyckoff Country Club and the Orchards, and a frequent hearts player at the Elks. He perfected breakfast during his decades as a cook at the Miss Florence Diner. He is survived by his wife Mary Kay (O’Donnell), their children, Stephanie and her husband John Long of Astoria, NY, Danielle of Woburn, and Jeffrey of Londonderry, NH, and his mother-in-law Helen “Len” O’Donnell. He is also survived by Declan Long, his grandson, and took his role Grampy Moon very seriously.
Calling hours will be held Thursday August 28 from 11:30am – 1:00p.m. at Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a 2:00pm burial ceremony with military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
Moon’s family is extremely grateful to the Holyoke VNA & Hospice Life Care for its help with Moon and making him comfortable during his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Moon’s memory to Colorectal Cancer Alliance.
