Susan (Sue) Donais passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born and raised in Holyoke. She was the daughter of the late Charles Donais and Elizabeth (Haller) Donais. She was a graduate of Holyoke Catholic High School, class of 1979. Sue earned her degree in nursing from the Dean Technical Nursing program in 1987. She began her nursing career at the Western Massachusetts Hospital in Westfield, and was most recently employed at Mount Marie Rehabilitation in Holyoke. She was a resident of South Hadley for 20 years. Sue attended St. Patrick’s Church in South Hadley Falls. Sue enjoyed attending outdoor music concerts, and loved being at the beach, especially Hampton Beach and Ogunquit Maine.
Sue will be sadly missed by her brothers: Robert Donais and his wife Paula of Granby MA, Jeffrey Donais and his wife Peggy of Yarmouth, MA and Kevin Donais and his wife Sheri of Westfield, MA. She also leaves behind her niece, Sarah Ingraham and her husband Dan, of Belchertown MA and her nephews, Paul Donais of Ludlow MA and Timothy Donais of Westfield MA. Sue also leaves behind numerous cousins, as well as her aunts Joan Granger, Kathy Hamel, Cheryl Haller, and her uncle David Haller.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Tashanna Myers and her staff at the Baystate Gynecologic Oncology for their care and support, and the nurses and staff from the Springfield 3 Oncology floor at Baystate for their compassion and care.
The family is especially grateful for the care, comfort and compassion that were given to Sue from Mary Ann and staff of Baystate Hospice and volunteers at the Harmony House in Chicopee MA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Susan on Saturday, May 2 at 11:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, South Hadley. Calling hours will be held on Saturday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street.
