Thomas B. Sheehan Obituary
Thomas “Tommy” Sheehan passed away peacefully on December 20th in his beloved home at the age of 78. He was born in Holyoke on November 2, 1947, to Thomas and Ethel Sheehan. Thomas was a graduate of Holyoke Catholic, class of 1965, where he played football and baseball. He continued his education at Holyoke Community College and proudly served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. Thomas worked two jobs: he dedicated over 30 years to the Holyoke Housing Authority and also served at the Holyoke and Springfield District Court. He was an avid sports fan, he especially looked forward to his yearly Notre Dame trips with his best friends—Mike “Tiger” Lavelle, Mike Mannix, Ray Hartnett, Elmer McMahon, Jerry Greaney, Doc Baker, and Fallon Ginty. Golfing at Holyoke Country Club brought him great joy, particularly in his league, “The Wild Geese.” He cherished family vacations at Hampton Beach for over 50 years. He so looked forward to traveling down to Georgia to watch his grandson Drew play football for the Georgia bull dogs. Molly and Pa shared countless road trips, filled with laughter and good-natured mischief. A nearly lifelong resident of View Street for 76 years, Thomas was known for hosting a great St. Patrick’s Day parade party, welcoming many friends over the years. He also proudly participated in the St. Patrick's Day road race for many years. Tom found simple happiness in walking his dog Rudy through the familiar streets of Elmwood—a cherished part of his fixed daily routine. He was a constant presence at his son’s, and later his granddaughter Morgan’s, sporting events, never missing a game. Thomas was fiercely loyal, endlessly hardworking, and blessed with a sense of humor like no other. He made countless sacrifices for his loved ones, and his family and friends will carry forward the lessons he shared for the rest of their lives. Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Ethel Sheehan; his brothers-in-law, Joe Veronikowski, Dan Rogers and Tom Grady; his best friends Mike “Tiger” Lavelle, Mike Mannix, Ray Hartnett, Jerry Greaney, Doc Baker, Fallon Ginty; and his niece Kellie Haradon Goulding. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Audrey (Slaby) Sheehan; his two sons, Thomas and his wife Lisa, and Ryan and his wife April, along with his grandchildren, Drew and his wife Anna Sheehan, Morgan Sheehan, and Molly Sheehan. He is also survived by his four sisters, Mary Haradon, Kathy Grady, Nora Veronikowski, and Annmarie Rogers, along with many nieces and nephews. Thomas is fondly remembered by his best friend, Elmer McMahon, as well as his trusted confidant and soon-to-be grandson-in-law, Kyle Cavanaugh.
