Walter Daniel "Dan" Redding

Walter Daniel “Dan” Redding, Jr. age 64, passed away suddenly on February 21, 2023. He was born in Holyoke on July 9, 1958, son of Dorothy Redding and the late Walter “Buddy” Redding. Besides his mother, Dan is survived by his daughter Danielle, granddaughter Aurora, and sister Deborah. Dan graduated from Holyoke High School in 1976. He joined the United States Air Force in May of 1978 and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada. Upon leaving the service in 1982 he went to work at the Nevada Test Site. Soon after he started working at Ameristar Casino as head of security and surveillance for the entire corporation. After retiring in 2016 Dan followed his dream of owning a bar, which led to him purchasing Muley’s Family Bar and Grill in Spring Creek, Nevada. January 8, 1997 brought Dan the happiest moment in his life with the birth of his beautiful baby daughter, Danielle. He was a proud Papa, and she was the light of his life. Dan was a loving and supportive father and she definitely had him wrapped around her finger. His support never wavered as he watched Danielle grow from childhood into the woman she is today. He was extremely proud of her accomplishments and was her fiercest cheerleader as she went off to play volleyball in college. If he was unable to make her games in person he’d still tune in and would be seen and heard yelling at his laptop as he watched her games, most times from his office at Muley’s. Dan was also blessed with a granddaughter, Aurora, on April 3, 2021. She quickly became the (new) light of his life, as he couldn’t wait to show everyone pictures of her. He cherished every face time call with her as they made funny faces at each other and laughed a bunch. Throughout Dan’s life he accomplished a great number of things, but remained humble and kind. He had a love for the mountains and outdoors, which led him to Spring Creek, Nevada. Dan was one-of-a-kind, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was witty, funny, and will be missed very much. Till we meet again “Surf”, we love you! A Memorial Mass will be offered for Dan on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke.
