Walter J. Gonet, Jr. Obituary

Walter Joseph Gonet, Jr., 81, of Holyoke, died October 17, 2025 at Regal Care in Holyoke. Walter was born in Holyoke son of the late Walter J. Sr. and Irene (Krainski) Gonet and was a graduate of St. Jerome High School and Springfield Technical Community College. Walter was a retired movie projectionist and recording engineer. He was involved in Holyoke youth sports for many years, including Holyoke Youth Football and Baseball Leagues. He was a minor league baseball umpire and on the board of the Western Mass and Franklin Boards of Umpires for over 40 years. He was a devout Catholic who worshiped at Our Lady of the Cross Church. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Gonet and sister-in-law Terry Gonet and nephew Robert Gonet, Jr. and his brother-in-law Kenneth Jarry. He is survived by his sister Dorothy (Fallon) Jarry of Southwick and his nephews Thomas Jarry and Todd Fallon and his nieces Nicole Fallon and Wendy Pride and Cherrie Gonet. He leaves several dear friends Pat Egan and Maribel Santana and Anna Morales and all of the members of his Rosary Prayer group and Church Choir and his personal aides Brenda, Rose, and Simone and so many others who took so very good care of him over the years. The funeral will be held Friday October 24 at 9:00am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of the Cross Parish Church. Burial will take place in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday October 23 from 4:00 to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Cross Church.
