William T. Barton, age 86, of Agawam, died peacefully on April 5, 2022, at Day Brook Village in Holyoke, MA. Bill was born March 10, 1936, in Springfield MA, to William and Esther (Connors) Barton. He grew up in Springfield and Longmeadow and graduated from Technical High School in 1953. He continued his education at Boston College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1957. He was in the U.S. Army Reserves 309th Field Hospital from 1957 through 1963. After trying a couple of sales positions, Bill was Assistant Manager at the former New York Central Transportation Company in West Springfield. He then started his own company, Springfield Auto School, where he taught driving skills for several decades, retiring in 1990. Bill spent many summers of his retirement in Harwich Port on Cape Cod where he enjoyed biking, golfing, the many fine eating and drinking establishments the area offers and visiting with family. Bill would like to thank the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots for saving their best for his retirement years.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Tim Lynch. He is survived by his sisters, Nancy Lynch and Barbara Dunn; nieces, Kate Lynch (Murray Grose) and Lauren Dunn; and nephews, Ned Lynch (Kate) and Jeff Dunn (Julie). He is also survived by seven great-nieces and great-nephews. At his request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Life Care via www.holyokevna.org or to Sierra Club Foundation via www.sierraclub.org. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home in Holyoke is handling arrangements.
