William (Bill) J. Colangelo passed away unexpectedly at his home in Holyoke MA on Wednesday October 23rd 2024. Bill was born in Waterbury CT on September 17, 1948, son of the late Emilo and Antoinette (Magnanimo) Colangelo. Bill graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1966 and Northeastern University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. After graduating, Bill moved to New Hampshire where he taught classes at the University of New Hampshire and received his MBA. Bill then passed the CPA exam and began working for Price Waterhouse out of Hartford CT as an auditor. Afterwords, Bill was hired by H.P. Hood Milk Company as CFO. During this time he met and married his pre-deceased wife, Elizabeth (Murphy) Colangelo, of 43 years and moved to Holyoke for the remainder of his life. In Holyoke, Bill eventually owned and managed over 300 apartment units throughout the 1980’s. His final job, and the one he was most proud of, was that of a United States Postal worker from which he retired in 2016. Bill leaves behind his daughter Dr. Cara Segal (daughters, Mattea and Eliza Segal) of Northampton MA, friend and step-son Christopher (Alejandra) Sugrue of Westhampton MA, step-daughter Erin (Thomas) Fitzgerald of Florence, MA, his cherished sister Ann Marie (Donald) Lengyel of Beacon Falls, CT, nephew William (Kristen) Lengyel of Cheshire, CT, his niece and Goddaughter Jessica DeGennaro of Prospect, CT, first cousin and lifelong best friend Michael Mormile, along with numerous other devoted family members. Grampy Bill dedicated the final years of his life to his four Godchildren, nieces, and nephews (Jessica, Penelope, Jack, Josh, Sophie, Jane, Georgia, Lilly, and Emmilia). Bill was a devout communicant and volunteer at Our Lady of the Cross parish in Holyoke MA. Bill remained a steadfast Mets, Knicks, and Jets fan since childhood. Bill was an avid golfer having played 18 holes the day before his passing. In the summer, you could find him at Misquamicut Beach or sitting on his porch in Holyoke reading and working on his suntan. Visiting hours will be at Barry J. Farrell Funeral home in Holyoke MA on Wednesday morning October 30 from 9 - 10:30am followed by a Mass at Our Lady of the Cross in Holyoke MA at 11:00am.
